Every May, as I sit down to write Homeward Bound, I reflect on Mother’s Day and know I am the woman I am today because of her. I could be having the worst day of my life and she can make me smile. Ever observant, she is a trusted confidant and can pull me out of a slump with her ridiculous sense of humor, or at least get me to see the silver lining. Time reveals, in fact, that just about every caring mother is a wise woman. I can see why we carve out a special day each year to acknowledge them. So here’s a ‘shout out’ to all moms

This year, on May 8, we have an opportunity to celebrate our moms, or those that fill that very special role in our lives. I realize for some, their moms may no longer be living and so to ease whatever feelings of melancholy the holiday might evoke in you, I’d like to share a quote I’ve hung onto, over the years. As part of our Go Serve Big mission statement, we are on a mission to raise $10,000 for the Rotary Club of  Concord. Whether it’s providing food for the struggling and hungry through joint partnership with many food pantries, assisting seniors in their homes with small repairs, distributing dictionaries to 3rd graders,  painting USA maps at schoolyards, helping restore the landscape at the Historical Society or beautifying  Newhall Park, Rotary leads the way in restoring lives one person and one community at a time.

For more than 110 years, Rotary International has bridged cultures and connected continents to champion peace, fight illiteracy and poverty, save mothers & children, provide clean water and sanitation, support education, grow local economies, protect the environment and fight disease.
